Did you know that according to author  Gary Chapman there are 5 Love Languages with which people understand and communicate their love? Do you know your primary love language or love languages? Take the 5 love languages test with your significant other to find out how best you can communicate love to them. These 5 Love Languages are:

Words of Affirmation: This language uses words to affirm other people
Acts of Service: For these people, actions speak louder than words
Receiving Gifts: For some people, what makes them feel most loved is to receive a gift.
Quality Time: This language is all about giving the other person your undivided attention.
Physical Touch: To this person, nothing speaks more deeply than appropriate touch.

Valentines is a mere 3 days 8 hours and 30 minutes away.  To help you communicate to that special someone (and that special someone can definitely be you)  just how much they mean to you we have put together a Valentines Day Gift Guide based on the theory of the 5 love languages. We don’t believe that the expression of love should be reserved for one day a year. Neither do we believe that things need to be bought to show love. However, everyone loves a little something nice and thoughtful…don’t you?

The Gift of Physical Touch

Physical touch (incase you missed that)

According to scientific studies (only cold hard facts on this blog) human touch can increase your overall wellness. You can give your significant other a massage in the intimacy of your home- we suggest using some tropically scented oils made by our friends at Arawak Island. Pamper yourself with an at home spa night after a long day at work. Arrange a surprise  couples massage at Blue Haven Spa- that way you both get to experience the benefits of physical touch through a soothing massage at the hands of our experienced gifted and popular massage therapists. Blue Haven Spa currently has a special on massages. Check them out on Facebook for details.

 The Gift of Chocolate

Receiving Gifts

What is a Valentines Day without even a little chocolate in the mix? It is terribly cliche, we know, but also incredibly delicious too (you have to admit) . Instead of the imported chocolates in a shiny red heart shaped box (everybody does that!) , buy locally made  organic chocolate bon bons or truffles. The delicate flavour balance between organic dark chocolate filled with  local fruit and spice is the perfect way to show your love. Locally made bon bons are available at Belmont Estate in the Grenada Chocolate Company Bon Bon shop. House of Chocolate on Young Street is also making special valentines day chocolate boxes.

The Gift of Fond Memories

Quality Time

Experience something neither of you has done before. Being students of adventure is a brilliant bonding opportunity. Go on a hike, just the two of you, or, learn to dive and discover the magic that lies beneath the ocean’s surface. These moments will bring you closer together and enrich your lives as individuals too.

The Gift of Relaxation

Acts of Service

What does your love do for you that makes your burden lighter? Daily meals prepared with love? The laundry? Groceries? Put the baby to sleep? Keep the yard in tip top condition? They do it with love and they do it for you and the family.

If one of your spouses primary love language is acts of service take over their chores for the day and give  your love the day off. Let them put up their feet and just exist and be catered to.  What better way than a day pass at our small slice of tropical paradise? We have three different day passes available: standard, deluxe and spa. For details and prices please check out our website.

Here is one you can do at home. Three words: Breakfast in Bed

The Gift of a Romantic Dinner for Two

Words of Affirmation

Dodgy Dock has an exquisite romance inspired Valentines menu planned for dinner on February 14th. This is a great opportunity to sit and just talk to your love. Use this time (where no one is cooking, wiping the counter or washing the dishes) to affirm just how much you appreciate each other. It will go a long way for those people whose primary love language is ” Words of affirmation” and a great practice to carry through the year to strengthen your relationship.
